Welcome!
A warm welcome to Christ Church . We're delighted you've found us on the web; please enjoy a few moments of quiet with us to give thanks for the many who have found God's peace, reconciliation, love and welcome since the foundation of the old St John's Chapel of Ease on this site in 1749.
The church is normally staffed by a priest often with a curate in training. We are also supported by a non-stipendiary curate working for the Church of England as Director of Education in this Diocese, and retired members of the clergy. The parish currently is in vacancy the vicar having retired in October 2007 and the curate taking up the incumbency of St Aidan and St Columba, Hartlepool in January 2008. We have a hardworking team of four churchwardens and a reader, as well as a tremendous team of lay folk who are committed to the Church;- surely a recipe for continuing success and joy.
The parish extends across High Harrogate to the residential areas around The Stray, including secondary schools St Aidan's, St John Fisher and Harrogate High, along with several primary schools. The parish includes Harrogate District Hospital (served by three ecumenical chaplains), local shops, small industries and branches of national organisations and charities, and a number of retirement and rest homes.
Christ Church has a diverse range of musical style; our choir leads the musical worship at morning Eucharist services and occasional sung evensong, with a talented orchestra of musicians leading at the Family Eucharist, usually on the first Sunday each month.
You are most welcome to join us in prayer, praise and celebration of God our Father, his Son Jesus and in enjoying the fruit and comfort of his Holy Spirit. May God bless you in your search for his healing and peace. Rev Clive Sedgewick
Christ Church is pleased to receive the ministry of Canon Brian Abell, retired.
Work on this new version of the Christ Church website continues through 2008.
